Safety Committee

Established in May of 2016, C.C.C.O.'s safety committee holds monthly meetings centered around reducing blight and crime in our neighborhoods. Lead by our current Safety Committee chair, Beatrice Rodriguez, the goal of the safety committee is to involve Chadsey Condon residents in safety initiatives like Hope Patrol (neighborhood patrol), Hot spot reporting (anonymous safety reporting), Neighborhood cleanups (Motor City Makeover, etc.), and Conducting monthly safety briefings, which included professionals from D.P.D, Ceasefire, and D.D.O.T.

Highlights

In May of 2017, safety committee members launched the Hope Citizen Patrol of Southwest Detroit. Also, over 75 residents were involved with the safety committee in 2019

Neighborhood Inclusion Task Force Committee

Established in 2018, the Neighborhood Inclusion Task Force has been working to combat gentrification by developing anti-gentrification policies. 

C.C.C.O. hopes to welcome new community members while protecting long-term community members ensuring they are not pushed out by new development coming to our neighborhood.

In 2019, we partnered with the Warren/Junction Community Council to successfully mobilized our residents in campaigning against rezoning areas of our neighborhood into an industrial zone until appropriate environmental and traffic studies be completed and results shared with

 

Youth Committee

Highlights

Our youth committee helps prepare neighborhood youth for high school, college, leadership, college tours (U of M, etc.), monthly youth night activities, and workshops facilitated by subject matter experts (FAFSA application preparation, etc.). 

Presentations and Workshops

From November 2017 to May 2018, we held a series of workshops for our group's youth leaders. The youth presented leadership information to their peers by picking a topic, putting together a presentation with support from staff, and then giving the workshop independently. Youth Committee hosts numerous presentations related to:

Youth Nights

Established in September of 2016, C.C.C.O.'s youth committee holds monthly youth nights for youth ages 13-18 every third Thursday of the month. Youth nights are intended to be a space designed to break from the daily schedules, demands in your lives. A typical youth night event consists of food, games, and guest speakers, which include university officials, career professionals, and community leaders.

Due to social distancing guidelines, all youth night sessions will be virtual, fun, and interactive. Join us for our monthly youth night committee meetings every 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:00 pm on our online zoom meeting platform.

Mini-grants for Youth Projects

Over the past four years, the Chadsey Condon Youth Committee has received multiple mini-grants totaling over $19,000 for youth projects.

  • 2014: we received a grant from Community Connections for a college prep and community leadership initiative. 

  • 2015: we received a grant from the Partnership for youth to do S.A.T. Prep classes at our office and college tours. 

  • 2015: we received a community connections grant to do a community clean-up with the youth. 

  • 2016: we received a grant to do college prep and tours. 

  • 2017: we received a grant from Community Connections to do a Tour of Michigan and expose our youth to different parts of our great state.
